Uganda mourns Sr. Vastina Nagasanzwe and Fr. Simon Peter Watenyeri

KAMPALA — The Catholic community in Uganda is mourning the loss of two prominent religious figures, Sr. Vastina Nagasanzwe and Fr. Simon Peter Watenyeri, whose deaths were announced by the Uganda Episcopal Conference.

Sr. Vastina Nagasanzwe

The Superior General of the Sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Mbarara announced with profound sadness the death of Sr. Vastina Nagasanzwe on March 23, 2026.

Sr. Vastina will be laid to rest at the Kyabirukwa Motherhouse on Wednesday, March 25, at midday. In the announcement, the Sisters prayed for her soul to rest in eternal peace.

“We pray for her soul to rest in Eternal Peace. Amen,” the announcement read.

In a separate statement, the Uganda Episcopal Conference extended condolences to the Archdiocese of Tororo.
