The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced that 1,232 trading spaces are currently available across several public markets in Kampala as of March 1, 2026, offering opportunities for vendors seeking formal business premises within the city.
In a public notice, the authority said the vacant stalls are spread across markets including Busega, Usafi, Wandegeya, Kamwokya, Luzira, Nakawa, and the City Abattoir, with spaces covering a variety of business categories such as garments, fruits and vegetables, butcheries, restaurants, fish stalls and general merchandise.
According to the notice, Busega Market has the highest number of available stalls at about 310, followed by Usafi Market with 247 spaces and Wandegeya Market with 166 spaces.
Other markets with remaining trading areas include Kamwokya Market (150 spaces), City Abattoir Market (185), Luzira Market (108) and Nakawa Market (66).
KCCA said the listing is part of efforts to promote organized and regulated trade in the city while encouraging vendors to operate from designated market facilities instead of streets and other unauthorized spaces.
The development comes amid ongoing enforcement operations aimed at clearing illegal street vending in the capital. City authorities have been urging traders operating on walkways, road reserves and other public spaces to relocate to gazetted markets where stalls and basic facilities are available.
Officials say the move is intended to restore order in the central business district, improve sanitation and ensure fair competition among traders operating within formal market structures.
KCCA encouraged interested vendors to apply for the available spaces through the authority’s market management offices, noting that allocation is expected to follow verification procedures and a first-come, first-served approach.
The authority manages several public markets across the capital as part of its mandate to regulate urban trade and improve livelihoods while maintaining order in the city.
