KAMPALA — The Uganda Police Force has arrested 100 suspects following a series of intelligence-led operations across the Kampala Metropolitan Area aimed at curbing rising crime.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the coordinated operations conducted on March 23, 2026 involved multiple divisions and were prompted by public complaints over increasing criminal activity.
“These operations were carried out in response to numerous concerns from the public regarding escalating crime, particularly in urban communities,” Kawala said.
Multiple hotspots targeted
In Kira Division, police raided Kito B Cell, Kito A Zone, and Kireku Main Zone, arresting 34 suspects.

Crime and exhibits
Police said the suspects are linked to a range of offences including robbery, phone snatching, burglary, theft, gambling, and abuse of narcotic substances.
“The operations specifically targeted criminal gangs that have been terrorising residents, especially during nighttime,” Kawala noted.
She added that several exhibits, including suspected narcotics, were recovered during the raids.
Ongoing investigations
All suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting criminal activity, emphasising that similar operations will be sustained to improve safety across the metropolitan area.
