KAMPALA — Police in Kampala have arrested a suspected serial robber believed to be behind a string of violent robberies targeting members of the public during the early morning hours in Kiwatule.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the suspect, identified as Nkwasibwe Joel, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Kira Road Police Division in Balintuma Zone, Kiwatule, on July 8, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m.

Police said Nkwasibwe had been on their watch list following reports linking him to a series of robberies in the area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on July 6, 2026, the suspect allegedly attacked a boda boda rider by striking him with a blunt object, believed to be a paving stone, before robbing him of his personal belongings.

The victim sustained serious injuries during the attack and was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment.

Police said the suspect remains in custody as detectives continue gathering evidence.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be arraigned before the courts of law upon completion of the investigations,” SP Kawala said in a statement.

The Uganda Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to identifying and apprehending individuals involved in criminal activities, particularly violent robberies targeting residents.

Police also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information that can assist law enforcement agencies in preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice.

The arrest comes amid intensified intelligence-led operations by Kampala Metropolitan Police targeting suspected criminals linked to robberies, phone snatching, and other violent crimes across the city.
