The Police Flying Squad Unit has launched a manhunt for a security guard accused of stealing UGX 290 million from a private company in a suspected insider-led theft along Mawanda Road in Kampala.

According to preliminary police reports and online statements attributed to the Uganda Police Force, the suspect, identified as Justin Akena, is alleged to have stolen the money from Goldex Global Company Limited while working as a contracted guard.

Akena, who was reportedly attached to Magnum Security Company Limited, had been deployed at the company’s offices along Mawanda Road when the incident occurred over the weekend.

Investigators allege that he broke into a vehicle under his protection and fled with a bag containing cash and suspected gold. Police say the theft is believed to have been carefully planned, prompting the involvement of the elite Flying Squad Unit to track down the suspect.

Security sources indicate that preliminary inquiries are ongoing to establish whether the suspect acted alone or received assistance from other individuals within or outside the premises.

The Uganda Police Force has urged anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to cooperate with law enforcement as the search intensifies.

Authorities also confirmed that efforts are underway to recover the stolen money and any other items taken during the incident, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the breach of security.
