KAMPALA — Police at Old Kampala have arrested eight suspects over a viral social media video in which a group of men allegedly boast about attacking members of the public.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the suspects were arrested on September 8, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation at Gojo Gym in Namungona, Lubya Parish, Rubaga Division, Kampala District.
Police said about six individuals are seen in the video allegedly praising themselves for carrying out attacks on members of the public.
In the video, the suspects allegedly claim to have attacked several victims, breaking their jaws and teeth. They also allegedly demand that dentists share money earned from treating the victims and threaten medical practitioners who refuse to comply.
Police said four of the eight suspects arrested are allegedly seen in the viral video.
The suspects have been identified as Matiti Mohammed, also known as Beast-Commander; Nurudin Kasule, also known as 2 I/C; Umar Mubiru; Lukooya Adams; Kiyimba Martin; Alinda Yosam Junior; Walumu James; and Elvis Simanya.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly used the gym, under the guise of boxing training, as a meeting point.
They are also suspected of involvement in violent criminal activities, including robbery, housebreaking, theft, phone snatching, use of deadly weapons and unlawful possession of narcotic substances.
The last four suspects were reportedly found at the gym during the operation, with some allegedly found in possession of suspected narcotic substances.
“The suspects are currently in police custody pending court proceedings,” police said in a statement.
Police said efforts are continuing to identify and arrest other individuals allegedly appearing in the video and to establish their possible involvement in the reported criminal activities.
The Force has also appealed to members of the public with information about the suspects or possible victims of the alleged attacks to report to police.
The investigation remains ongoing.
