KAMPALA, Uganda — Police have arrested 94 suspects in intelligence-led operations conducted across several crime-prone areas in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, targeting criminal gangs involved in robbery, phone snatching and related offences.

The operations were conducted between midnight and 5am on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, according to the Uganda Police Force.

Police said the operations were aimed at disrupting criminal activities and dismantling gangs involved in waylaying and robbing members of the public.

In Mukono, officers conducted operations in Kamwanyi, Ham Mukasa, Kasokosi, Lwanda, Namanve and surrounding areas, arresting 22 suspects.

Another 21 suspects were arrested during operations conducted by Nagalama Police in Kalagi, Katonga Ghetto, Kakoola and neighbouring areas.

In the Kira Road Division, Police arrested 13 suspects in operations covering Kisaasi, Dungu Zone, Kikulu Zone and surrounding areas.

The largest number of arrests was recorded in Kabalagala, where 38 suspects were taken into custody.

Police also reported recovering several exhibits during the operations, including suspected narcotic substances and other items believed to be connected to criminal activity.

The Force said the operations form part of its continuing intelligence-led approach to crime prevention, particularly in areas identified as hotspots for robbery, phone snatching and other offences.

Police said the operations will be sustained across the Kampala Metropolitan Area as it seeks to disrupt criminal networks and improve the safety of residents and their property.

The Force has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons and activities to the Police.

The statement did not provide details on the identities of the suspects, the specific quantities or types of narcotics recovered, or the offences with which individual suspects will be charged. Those details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
