One injured in Rubanda crash

RUBANDA — One person sustained serious injuries after a truck collided with a motorcycle along the Kabale-Kisoro Road in Rubanda District, police have said.

The crash occurred in the afternoon at Echuya Forest and involved a white Howo Sino truck, registration number RAJ 322K/RL 8412, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 911MF.

According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime, the two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when the truck, which was reportedly negotiating a sharp corner, collided with the motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for medical treatment. The motorcycle was badly damaged in the crash.

Traffic police in Rubanda responded to the scene and began managing the incident.

Police have urged motorists and other road users to exercise caution, particularly on sharp bends and other potentially hazardous sections of the road.

“ We encourage all road users to always respect road signs on the roads and to always drive to the recommended speed limit,” Tumushime said.

Police also advised drivers travelling long distances to get adequate rest before driving to reduce the risk of crashes linked to fatigue.

“Drivers who drive long routes ought to get enough rest so that they can drive while sober,” Tumushime said.

The crash comes amid continued police calls for motorists to observe speed limits and exercise greater caution on roads, particularly in areas with sharp corners and difficult terrain.
