Mitooma — A parish chief from Mitooma District has been remanded after appearing before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges related to alleged bribery and abuse of office.

The Anti-Corruption Unit – State House Uganda, in liaison with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, confirmed the arraignment of Owarimpa Esther, a Parish Chief of Ruhehe North Parish in Kabira Sub-county.

According to investigators, Esther is accused of soliciting and receiving bribes from job seekers by falsely claiming she could influence recruitment decisions within the district service commission.

“Between October 2025 and January 2026, while serving as a Parish Chief at Mitooma District Local Government, Esther allegedly solicited and received millions of shillings in bribes from job applicants, claiming she could influence DSC decisions to secure them jobs,” the Anti-Corruption Unit said in a statement.

She was arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court and remanded until April 27, 2026, as inquiries into the case continue.

Authorities say the case underscores ongoing efforts to crack down on corruption in local government structures, particularly schemes targeting vulnerable job seekers.

The Anti-Corruption Unit urged members of the public to report similar incidents, warning that exploiting job applicants through false promises of employment remains a serious criminal offence.
