Kampala, Uganda — A man has been remanded to prison after being arraigned before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of demanding money with menaces, following a joint investigation by state agencies.

The Anti-Corruption Unit – State House Uganda, working with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, confirmed that Kizito Ronald was charged over an alleged extortion scheme involving a fabricated murder plot.

According to investigators, the accused reportedly made a false report in February 2026 at Kira Police Station, claiming he had been hired by a one Robert Mugimba to kill his wife.

Authorities say that in March 2026, Kizito later confessed that the claim was false and instead demanded Shs4 million from Mugimba in exchange for retracting the allegation.

“He falsely reported that he had been hired… to kill Mrs. Mugimba. However, he later admitted the report was false and demanded money to withdraw it,” the Anti-Corruption Unit said in a statement.

Kizito was subsequently arrested during an operation while allegedly receiving the money.

He appeared before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court and was remanded until April 30, 2026, as investigations continue.

Officials say the case highlights growing concerns over the misuse of law enforcement processes for personal gain, warning that false reporting and extortion remain criminal offences punishable under Ugandan law.
