KAPCHORWA – Olympic and world champion long-distance runner Joshua Cheptegei has hinted at a major personal development project taking shape in his home district of Kapchorwa, describing it as a long-held dream rooted in his upbringing in rural Uganda.

In a post shared on his social media platforms, Cheptegei reflected on his journey from one of Uganda’s remotest villages to becoming one of the world’s most decorated distance runners, saying the project represents a deeply personal milestone.

“It’s been always a great dream to do something that is so close to my heart, growing up in one of the remotest villages in Uganda where one would ask; can something good come out of this place?” he wrote.

Cheptegei added that the initiative is now taking shape in the scenic landscapes of Kapchorwa, though he did not disclose full details of the project.

“Friends, this baby is taking shape in the scenic magical #Kapchorwa,” he said, noting that more information would be shared in the coming days.

The athlete also expressed appreciation to his wife, Eng. Carol Kamari, praising her involvement and support in the project.

“I thank my dear wife Eng Carol Kamari for her great support, very instrumental in this project, project consultant, site manager and resident engineer!!” he wrote.

Cheptegei, a multiple Olympic gold medalist and world record holder, has often spoken about his humble beginnings in Kapchorwa, a high-altitude region in eastern Uganda known for producing some of the country’s top long-distance runners.

While details of the project remain undisclosed, the announcement has generated anticipation among fans eager to learn more about the athlete’s latest venture beyond competitive athletics.

Cheptegei indicated that further updates on the initiative will be shared in the coming days.
