Thousands of music fans thronged Kololo Airstrip in Kampala on Friday for Ray G Live in Concert, as one of Western Uganda’s biggest music stars staged what is widely regarded as the biggest show of his career in the capital.

The concert, branded as “Ray G Day,” attracted supporters from across the country, particularly Western Uganda, who turned up to celebrate the singer’s Runyankore heritage music and chart-topping hits.

Long queues formed at the venue as fans streamed through designated entrances, with organisers directing VIP guests through Gate 1 and ordinary ticket holders through Gate 2. Gold tables, priced at Shs2 million each, had sold out ahead of the show, underscoring the high anticipation surrounding the event.

The concert featured elaborate stage production and was sponsored by Uganda Waragi alongside several media and entertainment partners.

In the weeks leading up to the event, Ray G said the concert was about giving fans the experience they had long requested.

“It’s not about money, it’s about giving people the service they want. They wanted a concert in Kampala, and here it is. We care more about what we give than what we get,” the singer said during the official concert launch.

Explaining why the event was moved to Kololo Airstrip, Ray G said the venue offered enough space to accommodate his growing fan base.

“We wanted a bigger space where people can fit comfortably because last time we had challenges with seating. I believe Kololo Airstrip is the best venue for the show,” he said.

Born Reagan Muhairwe, Ray G has built his career by blending contemporary Afro-pop with Runyankore cultural influences, earning him a loyal following across Uganda and among the Ugandan diaspora. His music has helped elevate Western Uganda’s sound onto the national stage.

The concert was expected to feature performances of some of his biggest hits alongside appearances by guest artistes, as fans celebrated what many described as a milestone for indigenous-language music in Uganda.

The show also highlighted the growing commercial appeal of regional-language music, with Ray G becoming one of the few artistes from Western Uganda to headline a major concert at Kololo Airstrip, one of the country’s premier entertainment venues.
