Winnie Byanyima has reflected on her academic journey at the University of Manchester, sharing memories of her time at the institution’s engineering faculty and expressing gratitude for the education and experiences that shaped her career.
In a post shared on her official social media account, Byanyima described her time at the Simon Engineering Laboratories as “three wonderful and rainy years,” highlighting her studies in applied mathematics, fluid dynamics, jet propulsion, stability and control, aerodynamics, and materials science.
She said the experience “sharpened my mind, stretched my imagination, and equipped me to engage the world with rigour and purpose,” adding that it provided a strong foundation for her professional journey.
In a separate reflection, Byanyima also expressed delight at returning to the university campus, standing in front of the main building of the University of Manchester. She noted that it was a place where curiosity was ignited, friendships were formed, and the foundations of her career path were laid.
“Forever grateful to my alma mater,” she wrote, acknowledging the institution’s role in shaping her academic and professional development.
