Police have arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang known as “Egali”, including a man alleged to be its leader, during an intelligence-led operation in Kikoni, Kampala.
The suspects were arrested on October 30, 2026, in Kikoni Zones A and B, Makerere II Parish, Kampala District, during an operation conducted by officers from Wandegeya Police Station between 5:30am and 8:30am.
In a statement, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the operation targeted a group suspected of terrorising residents in Kikoni, Makerere, Kasubi, the Law Development Centre (LDC) area and Kawaala.
Police identified the suspects as Andama Sabil, also known as Amin, who is alleged to lead the gang; Bushera Musa, alias Dog City; Ndeleyo Vincent, alias Vin 1 City; and Hassan Simon, alias Swai City.
According to police, the gang is believed to comprise between 10 and 14 members who reportedly operate around Arua Park and use motorcycles to move between different locations.
The suspects are accused of attacking members of the public, particularly during early morning hours between 5am and 8am, injuring victims before robbing them of bags, mobile phones and other valuables.
Police further alleged that the group disguises itself in hooded clothing and camouflage attire and uses pangas and other dangerous weapons during the attacks.
During the operation, officers recovered suspected opium, camouflage jackets, shoes and other items that police said would support ongoing investigations.
“The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected to be connected to the alleged criminal network,” Kawala said.
Police urged residents in the affected neighbourhoods to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or information that could assist investigators.
The arrests come amid efforts by security agencies to address street robberies and other violent crimes in Kampala, particularly attacks targeting pedestrians during early morning and late evening hours.
