APAC — The Inspectorate of Government has arrested Atim Mega, a Senior Agricultural Engineer with Apac District Local Government, over allegations of uttering a false document during her recruitment process.

According to the Inspectorate of Government, Atim was arrested on May 25 and recorded a statement at the IGG Lira Regional Office. She is expected to appear before court in Apac District on May 26, 2026.

In a statement released by the Inspectorate, investigators said Atim applied for the position of Senior Agricultural Engineer in May 2024 and was subsequently appointed by Apac District Local Government.

However, investigations later established that an appointment letter she allegedly submitted as proof of prior work experience was disowned by the institution that purportedly issued it.

The disputed appointment letter, dated February 3, 2020, was purportedly from Itek-Okille Farmers’ Cooperative Society.

According to investigators, the leadership of the cooperative society denied ever employing Atim and declared the document a forgery.

The Inspectorate said the document formed part of the qualifications and experience that supported her appointment to the district position.

Under Section 328 of the Penal Code Act Cap 128, any person who knowingly and fraudulently utters a false document commits an offence and is liable to the same punishment as a person who forged the document in question.

The case adds to a growing number of investigations involving allegations of forged academic and employment documents within public service recruitment processes.

Authorities say investigations into the matter are ongoing.
