KAMPALA — Police are investigating a fire that broke out at motor vehicle garages in Mutajazi A Zone, Kibuli Parish, in Makindye Division early Friday morning.

According to the Uganda Police Force, the incident occurred at around 12:18am on March 13, 2026.

Firefighters from the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to the scene and managed to contain the blaze before it spread further.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said preliminary findings show that two garages were affected and about ten vehicles were severely damaged, while several others were rescued from the fire.

No injuries or deaths were reported as residents and workers in nearby structures were safely evacuated.

Police said the affected buildings were temporary structures, commonly used for motor vehicle repair and mechanical work.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and investigations are ongoing.

Authorities have urged the public, particularly operators of garages and workshops, to observe fire safety precautions, especially when using open flames near temporary structures.
