Residents in Kampala were on Monday night treated to a spectacular drone light show as Uganda prepared for the inauguration of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at Kololo Independence Grounds.

The breathtaking display illuminated the city skyline with animated images and patriotic messages, drawing crowds of excited spectators who gathered to witness the rare aerial performance.

Among the formations projected into the night sky were a portrait of President-elect Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party logo, a bus symbol associated with government development programmes, and the map of Uganda.

Videos and photographs of the event quickly circulated across social media platforms, with many city dwellers expressing admiration for the synchronised drone choreography ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.

The drone show formed part of activities leading up to Tuesday’s inauguration ceremony, where President Museveni was expected to officially begin another term in office following his victory in the January 2026 general election. According to Uganda’s Electoral Commission, President Museveni secured 71.65 percent of the vote in the presidential race.

Authorities earlier announced tight security arrangements and road diversions around Kampala and Kololo Independence Grounds ahead of the event, which attracted several African heads of state and foreign dignitaries.

Government officials described the inauguration as a significant national event celebrating Uganda’s political stability, economic transformation, and regional influence.

President Museveni, who has led Uganda since 1986, was sworn in during a ceremony attended by thousands of supporters, diplomats, and regional leaders.
