What you need to know:

At just 27, Ssenkaali Joseph has established himself as a Ugandan entertainment promoter and entrepreneur, building platforms that connect Ugandan artistes with diaspora audiences in Dubai and across the Middle East.

KAMPALA — As Uganda’s entertainment industry increasingly looks beyond its borders for growth opportunities, young promoter Ssenkaali Joseph is among the entrepreneurs helping local artistes reach international audiences through diaspora-driven events and digital promotion.

Born in Lukaya Town Council, Kalungu District, Joseph’s journey into entertainment began in Greater Masaka, where he attended Kamuwunga Primary School before joining Mpeera Secondary School. Growing up in a region known for its vibrant cultural and music scene sparked his interest in the entertainment business from an early age.

Today, Joseph serves as the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ssenkaali Promotions, an entertainment company involved in artiste management, music promotion, event organisation and digital marketing. Through the company, he has worked with both established and emerging Ugandan artistes, helping them expand their visibility beyond the local market.

Over the years, Joseph has focused much of his work on strengthening entertainment links between Uganda and the United Arab Emirates, particularly Dubai, which has become a growing hub for Ugandan and East African diaspora communities.

His efforts have contributed to the organisation of music events, entertainment showcases and promotional campaigns that provide Ugandan artistes with opportunities to perform before international audiences while building networks within the diaspora community.

In 2024, Joseph launched The Showing Awards, an entertainment recognition platform held in both Uganda and Dubai. The initiative was created to celebrate outstanding achievements by musicians, entertainers, entrepreneurs and other creatives while fostering connections between industry players at home and abroad.

The awards have since grown into a networking platform that brings together artistes, promoters, business leaders and members of the Ugandan diaspora, reflecting the increasing role of international communities in supporting Uganda’s creative economy.

Beyond physical events, Joseph has embraced digital platforms as a tool for promoting Ugandan music. Through social media and online entertainment campaigns, he has helped increase the visibility of local artistes among audiences in the Middle East and other parts of the world.

Industry observers note that promoters like Joseph represent a new generation of entertainment entrepreneurs leveraging technology and diaspora networks to create opportunities for Ugandan talent. As competition within the entertainment sector intensifies, access to international audiences is increasingly viewed as essential for sustainable growth.

With Dubai continuing to attract thousands of East Africans for business and employment, entertainment events in the city have become important avenues for cultural exchange, brand building and revenue generation for artistes seeking exposure beyond Uganda.

As he continues to split his time between Uganda and the United Arab Emirates, Ssenkaali Joseph remains focused on expanding opportunities for Ugandan entertainers and strengthening the cultural bridge between Kampala and one of the world’s fastest-growing entertainment destinations.
