President Museveni has criticised what he described as a lack of political and economic consciousness among African youth.

“I always wonder why young people are not thinking about the future of Africa. You spend a lot of time dancing and watching football,” he said. “At 20, I was already thinking about liberation and the long-term plan for Uganda.”

He was speaking on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Kabarole State Lodge in Fort Portal City.

“When I was a Gen Z, I was in the liberated area of Mozambique. Now, here what are you, the young people, doing?”

On regional integration, the President emphasised that Uganda’s growing production in sugar, milk, cement and other goods requires larger markets.

“China has 1.5 billion people, but is still looking for markets in Africa. Yet Africans, with small populations, are doing nothing,” he said, praising progress under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as essential for industrialisation and sustainable prosperity.
