Kampala, Uganda — Journalist Walter Mwesigye of NTV Uganda has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to public awareness campaigns addressing infertility stigma, girls’ education, and women’s empowerment.

Mwesigye received the African Media Recognition Award in the multimedia category from Merck Foundation under the global “More Than a Mother” campaign.

The campaign seeks to break social stigma associated with infertility while promoting access to medical information, education opportunities for girls, and empowerment initiatives for women across Africa.

Mwesigye was honoured for producing media content that highlights social challenges affecting vulnerable communities and promotes constructive dialogue on reproductive health and gender equality.

In a statement, Merck Foundation said the award recognises journalists who use multimedia platforms to drive positive social change and public health awareness.

The recognition places Mwesigye among African media professionals contributing to advocacy journalism through storytelling and community education.

The “More Than a Mother” campaign continues to encourage societies to support women’s health rights, reduce discrimination, and improve access to fertility care information across the continent.
