The Territorial Police in the South Kyoga Region, working jointly with the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Anti-Stock Theft Unit, have recovered 105 head of cattle stolen during a night raid allegedly carried out by suspected armed cattle rustlers in Bukedea District.

According to a statement attributed to the Uganda Police Force, the incident occurred on April 13, 2026, at around 11:00 pm when a group of about eight armed attackers reportedly stormed Kibimba Village in Amujaje Parish, Kamutur Sub-county.

The suspects, described as being armed with guns, bows, and arrows, first raided the kraal of Mwanga Paul, where they stole 27 head of cattle and assaulted the owner. The group then proceeded to a second kraal belonging to Saale Henry within the same village, where they took an additional 78 cattle, bringing the total stolen livestock to 105.

Following the report, a joint security response team comprising police officers and UPDF personnel launched an immediate pursuit of the suspects. Security forces engaged the raiders in a brief exchange of fire, forcing them to abandon the stolen animals and flee.

Authorities confirmed that all 105 cattle were successfully recovered and returned to their rightful owners. No fatalities were reported during the operation.

Security agencies have since intensified patrols in the area as investigations continue into the identity of the attackers and efforts to prevent further livestock thefts in the region.
