Uganda’s long-distance runner Abel Chelangat delivered a sensational performance to win the men’s race at the Barcelona Marathon in Spain, clocking a new personal best of 2:04:57.

Chelangat surged ahead in the closing stages of the race to defeat a strong Kenyan field and secure a memorable victory for Uganda on the international athletics stage. Kenya’s Patrick Mosin finished second in 2:05:01, while fellow Kenyan Jonathan Korir came third with a time of 2:05:29.

The Barcelona Marathon, one of Spain’s major road races, attracts elite runners from across the world and is known for producing fast times due to its flat course. Chelangat’s winning mark is among the fastest ever recorded at the event.

Uganda has continued to cement its reputation as a powerhouse in long-distance running, with athletes regularly competing at the highest level in marathons and road races globally.
