Lwengo  – A cloud of grief has hung over the festive season following a devastating road crash that claimed the lives of seven family members in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 AM on December 27, 2025, at Njagalakasayi Village along the Masaka-Mbarara highway.

The Incident

According to Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Twaha Kasirye, the head-on collision involved a silver Toyota Fielder (UBH 476W) and a silver Fuso truck (UBP 510V).

Preliminary investigations suggest that the Toyota Fielder, which was travelling from Kampala toward Mbarara, attempted to overtake a queue of vehicles. In the process, it crossed into the opposite lane and collided directly with the oncoming Fuso truck heading toward Masaka.

The Victims

All seven occupants of the Toyota Fielder perished in the crash. Police have identified the deceased as: Ivan Niwagaba, 38 (Father); Brenda Ainembabazi, 37 (Mother); Turihohabwe Sayuni, 39; Keith Agaba, 10; Keitha Atuhire; Masaiko Kenene, 5; Keron Agaba, 2

“The impact was fatal. Four occupants died instantly, while three more bodies were retrieved from the wreckage during rescue operations,” SP Kasirye stated.
