Police have transferred 26-year-old Rose Tumusiime, also known as “The One Rose”, to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli for further questioning following the death of Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu.
Tumusiime was transferred after a nearly six-hour operation by police teams from Kabalagala Police Division, according to NTV.
Police earlier said preliminary investigations indicated that Matovu visited the woman’s residence at about 5:30 a.m. on September 24, 2026, and that the two were confronted by a man believed to be a former partner of the woman as they left the residence.
Police said the incident may have followed a physical confrontation, although investigators were still working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Matovu’s death.
Matovu was seriously injured during the incident and was taken to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider, where he later died.
Police have since towed Matovu’s car from the scene as investigations continue.
A statement attributed to Tumusiime gives a different account of the events leading to the musician’s death.
According to the statement, Tumusiime and Matovu returned to her room at about 2 a.m. and remained there until around 5 a.m., when her alleged former boyfriend knocked on the door.
She reportedly refused to open the door, after which the man allegedly became violent, attempted to break down the door and smashed the windows.
Tumusiime reportedly told investigators that after breaking the windows, the man saw Matovu inside the room. She allegedly told him that Matovu was her father, but he rejected the explanation and became more aggressive.
She further alleged that she later gave Matovu a cup of water and escorted him to his vehicle on the road, where the suspect allegedly attacked her.
According to an account attributed to Tukamuhebwa, Tumusiime told investigators that the suspect began slapping her, prompting Matovu to get out of his vehicle and intervene.
Matovu allegedly asked the man why he was beating the woman before the suspect turned on him and punched him.
The full circumstances of the confrontation, including what happened immediately after Matovu was attacked, remain under investigation.
Meanwhile, Muslims gathered at Kibuli Mosque to pray for Matovu, with religious leaders calling for those responsible for his death to be arrested and prosecuted.
The investigation comes as security agencies pursue the suspect believed to have confronted Matovu and Tumusiime. Police have said they are continuing to verify the different accounts surrounding the incident.
