Ugandans on X launch nominations for new community president

KAMPALA — The Ugandans on X (UOX) community has officially opened nominations for its next president, marking the start of a highly anticipated digital leadership contest set to run through mid-April.

In a post published Tuesday via its official handle, @UOXUganda, the online community called on members to nominate their preferred candidates by tagging or naming them under the announcement and using the hashtag #UOXDecides2026. The nomination window will remain open for 48 hours, after which the four most-mentioned candidates will advance to the next stage of the race.

The election comes as outgoing president Gideon Nova Kwikiriza prepares to step down after his tenure, during which he spearheaded a number of community-driven initiatives, including business exhibitions and engagements with government officials. In earlier remarks, Kwikiriza cited the personal demands of the role as a key reason for his decision not to seek another term.

Early activity around the nominations has already highlighted several prominent names within Uganda’s online space. Among those gaining traction are digital influencer ESA, who drew attention with a campaign-style billboard poster, as well as Francis Nkore and Kirya, alongside other emerging contenders.

Following the nominations phase, the process will move into formal campaigns, culminating in a live debate scheduled for April 14. Voting is expected to take place on April 16, when members of the online community will select their next president for the 2026–2028 term.

The Ugandans on X initiative, a loosely organized but influential digital community, has in recent years grown into a platform for networking, social engagement, and civic-style discussions among Ugandan users on the social media platform.

Organizers say the election process is designed to be transparent and participatory, reflecting the community’s commitment to collective decision-making in the digital age.

This is a developing story based on ongoing activity on X (formerly Twitter) and may be updated as new information emerges.
