The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has issued a stern warning to TikTok users and other online actors circulating fabricated notices and AI-generated content designed to mislead the public.

In a public statement released Wednesday, the regulator said it has observed an alarming rise in false information masquerading as official UCC communications. The Commission stressed that such content is deliberately created to confuse and undermine public trust.

“We have noted with concern the continued circulation of false notices and fabricated statements intended to misinform and disinform the public,” UCC said.

The Commission specifically flagged a TikTok account operating under the name MEDIA_CHANNEL (real_blxz), which it said has repeatedly published content falsely attributed to UCC and other institutions.

“Of particular concern is a TikTok account operating under the name MEDIA_CHANNEL (real_blxz), which has repeatedly published content falsely attributed to UCC and other entities,” the notice stated.

UCC urged the public to rely only on verified and official platforms for information. “Members of the public are therefore urged to verify and confirm before sharing any information purporting to originate from the Commission,” the regulator said.

The Commission also warned that online anonymity offers no protection. “Anonymity on the internet is but an illusion; you are not ghosts. The law will take its course, and those responsible will be brought to book to answer for their actions,” the notice read.

UCC reaffirmed its commitment to transparent communication and the protection of Uganda’s digital ecosystem while reminding the public to depend on official channels for accurate and verified information.
