KAGADI — April 14, 2026 — A suspected arson attack in Kagadi District has left a two-year-old child dead and her parents critically injured, in a disturbing incident that has shocked residents.

The attack happened at about 3:00 a.m. in Mabaale North, Mabaale Town Council, when unknown assailants allegedly set a family home on fire using a flammable substance believed to be petrol. The flames quickly spread through the house, trapping the occupants inside.

The child, identified as Atuhura Sirati, is reported to have died from suffocation after failing to escape the burning house. Her parents sustained severe burn injuries and were initially rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital before being referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for specialised care.

Preliminary reports suggest the attack may have been premeditated. Residents say the door to the house had been locked from the outside and blocked, preventing the family from escaping as the fire intensified.

Local leaders condemned the incident, describing it as inhumane and deeply troubling.

“This is a barbaric act that has no place in our community. Disputes must be resolved through lawful means, not violence,” one local leader said.

There are also unconfirmed reports that a message left at the scene could point to a personal dispute, although authorities have not yet established the motive.

Police have launched investigations into the incident and confirmed that several suspects have been arrested to assist with inquiries.

The tragedy has heightened fear among residents, with calls for tighter security and increased vigilance to prevent similar attacks.
