Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been remanded further by the High Court Criminal Division as he awaits a decision on his bail application scheduled for July 30, 2026.
Lukwago appeared before High Court Judge David Matovu on Thursday, where his lawyers presented arguments seeking his release on bail. The court, however, extended his remand as it considers the application.
During the proceedings, Lukwago raised concerns about his health condition, telling court that his situation had worsened while receiving treatment at Murchison Bay Hospital. He requested to be transferred back to Mulago National Referral Hospital for further medical attention.
His lawyers argued that his health requires specialised care and urged the court to consider his medical condition while handling his bail request.
Lukwago, a lawyer and long-serving opposition figure, has previously served as Kampala’s Lord Mayor and remains one of the country’s prominent political voices. He has been involved in several political and legal battles over the years, often raising issues related to governance, accountability and citizens’ rights.
