The Uganda Police Force and Military Police have impounded 30 vehicles during joint traffic enforcement operations in and around Kampala targeting motorists accused of violating traffic regulations.
The operations have targeted vehicles and motorists involved in various traffic offences, according to Police spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety, SP Michael Kananura.
In a traffic enforcement update issued on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Kananura said the impounded vehicles included those being driven without number plates, fitted with illegal sirens and flashing lights, and those with concealed number plates.
Police also arrested motorists accused of reckless driving.
“The operations have been conducted in accordance with the law targeting vehicles and motorists involved in traffic violations which included those without number plates, fitted with illegal sirens and flashing lights, those with concealed number plates and vehicles whose drivers have been engaging in reckless driving,” Kananura said.
The drivers of the impounded vehicles are expected to appear before courts of law to answer charges arising from the alleged traffic violations.
“The drivers of the impounded vehicles will appear before courts of law to answer the charges preferred against them,” Kananura said.
Police said the joint operations will continue as authorities seek to enforce traffic regulations and address what they described as indiscipline on the roads.
“The operations will continue until sanity and discipline are restored on our roads,” Kananura said.
He urged motorists and members of the public to cooperate with officers conducting the operations and comply with traffic regulations.
“We therefore urge the public to cooperate with the officers conducting these operations and comply,” he said.
