KAMPALA — Police in Kampala have launched investigations into a robbery incident that occurred at the Nsambya Traffic Lights along Ggaba Road and was recently captured in a video that has been widely shared on social media.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the robbery took place on May 6, 2026, at around 11:30 a.m. within the jurisdiction of Kabalagala Police Division.

The incident involved a group of assailants who allegedly attacked two individuals before robbing them of cash believed to have been withdrawn from a forex bureau shortly before the attack.

Police said the matter was reported immediately after the incident, prompting detectives to commence investigations.

“Upon receiving the initial report, police immediately commenced investigations. The crime scene was visited and documented, statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, CCTV footage was reviewed, and vital evidential material was recovered to support the ongoing inquiries,” police said in a statement.

The case regained public attention after video footage of the robbery resurfaced on June 9 and began circulating on various social media platforms, sparking concern over security in the city.

Investigators are currently analysing the available evidence and pursuing leads aimed at identifying and arresting all individuals involved in the attack.

Police reassured the public that efforts to track down the suspects are ongoing and that those responsible will be brought to justice.

“We wish to reassure the public that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement added.

Authorities have also appealed to members of the public who may have information that could assist the investigations to report to the nearest police station or use established police communication channels.

Further updates will be provided as investigations continue.

The statement was issued by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
