KAMPALA – The Uganda Police Force has arrested 29 suspects following an intelligence-led operation targeting motorcycle theft in parts of the city.

The operation, conducted on April 17, 2026, was launched after growing public concern over the rising cases of stolen motorcycles, particularly in Katwe. Police teams carried out coordinated raids in Ndeeba and Muganzirwaza zones, as well as Mutebi Zone in Rubaga Division.

According to police, all the suspects arrested are male and are currently in custody pending further investigations.

During the crackdown, officers recovered 24 motorcycle spare parts and several old number plates believed to be linked to stolen bikes. Among the number plates recovered were UFY 763/A, UGG 874/E, UMA 304DR, UET 612/L, and UMA 267GT.

Authorities also cordoned off 10 shops in Muganzirwaza as investigations continue, with searches expected to establish their possible connection to the suspected criminal network.

Police said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle organized theft rings and curb motorcycle-related crime in the العاصمة. Motorcycles, commonly used as boda bodas, are a key mode of transport in Kampala and are often targeted by criminals.

The force thanked members of the public for providing information that led to the operation and urged continued cooperation to combat crime.

Security agencies have vowed to sustain similar operations in affected areas as part of a broader strategy to improve safety and protect livelihoods.
