WAKISO — Police in Wakiso District have arrested a boda-boda rider after he was found transporting nine children on a single motorcycle, raising fresh concerns about road safety and child protection.
According to Michael Kananura, the suspect, identified as Musisi Allan, was intercepted at Kakiri Police Station while riding a motorcycle with registration number UEA 067F.
“Police are holding one Musisi Allan, a boda-boda rider, who was intercepted while transporting nine children from the same family,” Kananura said. “He has since been charged and is currently detained pending court proceedings.”
Police said all the children, some of them toddlers, belonged to one family and had reportedly been handed over to the rider by their parents for transportation.
Authorities described the incident as extremely dangerous, noting that such overloading significantly increases the risk of fatal accidents.
“We strongly urge parents and guardians to desist from such dangerous practices. Such situations are preventable if safety is taken seriously,” Kananura added.
The incident has sparked widespread concern, with road safety advocates warning that boda-boda overloading remains a major contributor to accidents, particularly in areas where alternative transport options are limited.
Police have reiterated calls for stricter adherence to traffic regulations, emphasising that motorcycles are not designed to carry multiple passengers, especially children. Musisi Allan remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
