KAMPALA — Uganda’s rising table tennis star Patience Anyango has been crowned the Under-15 Girls’ Singles champion at the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships after defeating Tunisia’s Ela Saidi in the final in Accra, Ghana.
The victory marks another major milestone for Ugandan table tennis, with the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) hailing Anyango’s triumph as a significant achievement for Team Uganda.
“Uganda’s Patience Anyango has been crowned the U15 Girls’ Singles champion at the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships in Accra, Ghana, after defeating Tunisia’s Ela Saidi in the final,” the UOC announced.
According to the official championship results, Anyango produced a remarkable run to the title, overcoming several of Africa’s top junior players. She defeated Tunisia’s Ritej Cherif in the Round of 32, Egypt’s Joumana Abdelshakour in the Round of 16, Nigeria’s Aziza Sezuo in the quarter-finals, and advanced through the semi-finals before overcoming Saidi in the championship match.
The continental title further underlines Uganda’s growing strength in youth table tennis. The championships, organized by the International Table Tennis Federation Africa, brought together the continent’s best young players to compete for individual and team honours while also earning qualification opportunities for global youth competitions.
Anyango’s success comes at a time when Uganda continues to make significant strides across youth sport. Earlier this week, compatriot Joseph Sebatindira successfully defended his Under-12 African title at the ITTF Africa Hopes Week and Challenge, highlighting the country’s growing pipeline of table tennis talent.
The latest victory is expected to boost Uganda’s profile on the continental stage and provide further momentum for the development of the sport, with the Uganda Table Tennis Association and the Uganda Olympic Committee investing in nurturing young athletes capable of competing at the highest levels.
