Mechanised farming has been introduced in Bamutakudde Village, where residents have received access to a tractor and farm implements to support land preparation ahead of the planting season.
The initiative was announced by Solomon Serwanjja, who said Device Solutions Uganda Limited had provided a tractor equipped for clearing, tilling and preparing farmland.
According to Serwanjja, the company also covered the tractor operator’s costs and fuel for the initial land preparation as part of its contribution to agricultural production in the area.
The intervention comes as farmers in Bamutakudde prepare to plant maize. Serwanjja said residents had already secured maize seed, fertilisers and hand hoes before the tractor was brought in.
“Within hours, a huge acreage was cleared and we have already planted maize,” Serwanjja said in a statement.
He said the arrangement would continue beyond the initial intervention, with the tractor and its operator to be stationed at Device Solutions Uganda Limited’s centre in Nakifuma.
Under the arrangement, Bamutakudde residents with land will be able to access the machinery by meeting the cost of fuel.
Serwanjja said the model would allow more residents to access mechanised land preparation without having to individually purchase tractors or farm equipment.
The introduction of the tractor is expected to reduce reliance on manual land preparation using hand hoes and allow farmers to prepare larger areas within a shorter period.
Serwanjja said the initiative was intended to support food security and encourage commercial farming among residents.
He thanked Device Solutions Uganda Limited for supporting the community’s agricultural plans and said residents were now preparing for the expected maize harvest.
