Police in Kampala are investigating a fire outbreak that destroyed property worth millions of shillings at Lagatos Bar in Kiwatule.
The fire broke out at about 2:00pm on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the bar located in Kazinga Zone, Kiwatule Parish, Nakawa Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, no deaths or injuries were reported in the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been triggered by sparks generated during welding activities being carried out inside the premises as part of renovation works.
Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to the incident and successfully extinguished the fire before it could cause further damage.
The emergency response was supported by the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL), which disconnected the electricity supply to the premises to prevent additional danger.
Police officers visited and examined the scene as investigations continue to establish the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
Police have urged members of the public to exercise caution when conducting welding and other activities involving open flames or sparks, particularly in premises where combustible materials are stored.
Property owners and businesses have also been advised to put in place appropriate fire-safety measures to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.
“Police visited and examined the scene, and investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage,” Owoyesigyire said.
