KAMPALA — Centenary Bank has issued an urgent customer notice following an “unfortunate incident” that occurred outside its Nkrumah Road branch yesterday, March 26, 2026.

While the bank has not released specific details regarding the nature of the crime, the statement confirms that the incident involved “criminals” and at least one “affected esteemed customer.”

Security Response and Investigations

In a statement released by Management, the bank expressed deep concern and empathy for the victim. The bank’s internal security team is currently working alongside local authorities and the Uganda Police Force to track down the suspects.

In response to the breach, Centenary Bank has: increased security personnel in and around the Nkrumah Road premises, implemented heightened surveillance measures across its city branches and urged the public to report any suspicious individuals to the nearest police station or the bank’s security team.

Context of Recent Bank-Related Crimes

The incident at Nkrumah Road comes amidst a period of heightened vigilance for the banking sector. Earlier this month, police in the Albertine region investigated a specialised theft where criminals targeted the home of a bank officer to steal branch keys.

Additionally, the Uganda Police Force has recently conducted coordinated “disruptive operations” across the Kampala Metropolitan Area, arresting over 160 suspects linked to robberies and “paver attacks” in business hotspots.

Centenary Bank has reassured its clients that customer safety remains a top priority and has provided toll-free lines for anyone seeking further information or wishing to report suspicious activity.
