KIGALI, Rwanda — Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC have become the first Ugandan club to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League after beating Kenya Police Bullets 1-0 in the CECAFA qualifying final on Monday.
Captain Agnes Nabukenya scored the winning goal in the 100th minute of extra time to seal a historic victory for the six-time Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League champions.
After a goalless 90 minutes, Anita Namata headed the ball into the six-yard box, where Nabukenya reacted quickly to fire past the Police Bullets goalkeeper.
Kawempe held on to secure the victory and Uganda’s place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Ugandan champions completed an impressive campaign unbeaten and without conceding a single goal.
Their dominance was also reflected in the individual awards, with goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje named Best Goalkeeper and Nabukenya crowned Most Valuable Player of the qualifiers.
Kawempe have established themselves as a dominant force in Ugandan women’s football, winning six Women’s Super League titles since their first championship in 2015.
Their continental qualification marks a new milestone for the club and Ugandan women’s football.
For the first time, Uganda will have a club at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
