Security agencies have arrested five suspects linked to a string of aggravated robberies in the Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area and the murder of a police officer, following an intelligence-led operation that also led to the recovery of firearms.

According to police, the arrests were conducted between January 24 and 27, 2026, during coordinated operations in Kiti A Zone, Kirinya Parish, Bweyogerere Division, Wakiso District.

The suspects were identified as Amutuhairwe Robinson, a discharged former army officer; Okello Daniel, a security guard with Fortebet; Kasango Arafat; Luyirika Joseph Innocent; and Alphonse Daniel.

During the operation, officers recovered three firearms and three magazines, along with other exhibits believed to have been used in criminal activities.

Police say that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the killing of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bagenda Emmanuel, the Officer-in-Charge of Ntawo. ASP Bagenda was shot dead on November 23, 2025, while on patrol along the Ntawo–Nyenje Road in Ntawo Cell, Mukono District, after responding to intelligence about an armed robbery in the area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were also involved in several aggravated robberies, particularly targeting mobile money operators across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down additional suspects believed to be part of the robbery network.

Security agencies have praised the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and commitment, reiterating their resolve to thoroughly investigate and prosecute all violent crimes.
