Dubrovnik, Croatia — Dr David Musoke has officially taken office as President of the International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH), following his election at the 18th World Congress held in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Dr Musoke, an Associate Professor at Makerere University School of Public Health and a member of the Environmental Health Workers Association of Uganda (EHWAU), succeeds Dr Bruno Cvetkovic, who formally handed over leadership at the close of the congress.

The transition marks a significant milestone for Uganda’s representation in global public health leadership, with Dr Musoke now heading the International Federation of Environmental Health, a worldwide body focused on advancing environmental health standards and practices.

The congress also delivered a major win for Uganda, as the country secured the bid to host the 19th IFEH World Congress in 2028 in Kampala. The event will be organised in partnership with EHWAU, the Ministry of Health, and Makerere University School of Public Health.

The upcoming congress is expected to bring together global experts in environmental and public health to discuss emerging challenges, including climate change, urban sanitation, and disease prevention.

Dr Musoke’s appointment and Uganda’s successful bid have been welcomed as a strong endorsement of the country’s growing role in international public health leadership and academic excellence.
