Bobi Wine to address 18th Geneva Summit

Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine (real name Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu), president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), is scheduled to deliver an address at the upcoming 18th Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy on February 18, 2026, via video link, organisers have confirmed.

The annual summit, held at the United Nations European headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, brings together human rights activists, dissidents, survivors of political imprisonment and families of victims worldwide to highlight abuses and call for action. It is coordinated by a coalition of non-governmental organisations.

In a post on the official Geneva Summit website, organisers announced the programme for the 2026 gathering, scheduled for February 18, though individual speaker details are still being finalised. Registration is open for in-person attendance or online streaming at the event’s official site.

Bobi Wine’s participation comes amid ongoing political tensions in Uganda following the January 15, 2026, general election, in which President Yoweri Museveni was declared the winner and Kyagulanyi rejected the results, citing a lack of judicial credibility and contesting the outcome from hiding.

This will not be Wine’s first appearance at the Geneva Summit. In 2022, he spoke at the event on human rights and democratic freedoms, using the platform to call for international attention to Uganda’s political challenges and to appeal for accountability for human rights abuses.

Supporters have widely shared the announcement across social media platforms, where the summit’s scheduled date coincides with Bobi Wine’s birthday, prompting some posts wishing him safety and success ahead of the address.

Participating in the Geneva Summit underscores Wine’s continued role in raising Uganda’s political and rights issues on the global stage, even as his situation at home remains uncertain.
