Two church and local government leaders in Abim District have publicly reconciled following a scuffle that disrupted a church service last month.
The reconciliation involving Rev. Richard Ongom and LC II Chairman Oyoo took place at All Saints Church in Abim, where the two men embraced and exchanged apologies before the congregation.
The two had clashed during a church service on September 27 after Ongom reportedly stopped Oyoo from addressing the congregation on security matters and updates concerning mosquito-net distribution.
According to accounts of the incident, Ongom cited church protocol in denying Oyoo permission to speak, leading to a confrontation that escalated into a physical scuffle and interrupted the service.
The incident prompted police inquiries and an investigation by church authorities.
The disagreement attracted attention because both men hold leadership positions in the community, with the church serving as an important venue for public engagement on social and security matters.
At the subsequent service, however, the two leaders appeared together before worshippers and publicly put the dispute behind them.
The incident had raised questions about the boundaries between church protocol and the role of local leaders in addressing community concerns during public gatherings.
The reconciliation, however, shifted the focus from the confrontation to restoring relations between the two leaders and harmony within the congregation.
