KAMPALA — The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced traffic disruptions along Wampeewo Avenue following the start of road rehabilitation works expected to last two weeks.
In a public notice issued Monday, KCCA said its in-house team had commenced the works on April 6, warning motorists of both partial and full road closures at different intervals during the construction period.
“Diversion Alert: Our in-house team has commenced rehabilitation works on Wampeewo Avenue which will go on for a period of two weeks,” the authority said in a statement.
KCCA added that traffic flow along the route will be intermittently affected as works progress.
“We will be implementing both partial and full closures of the road from time to time within the two weeks,” the statement noted.
Motorists have been advised to follow designated alternative routes to ease congestion and ensure smooth traffic movement. These include Roscoe Road, Malcolm X Avenue, Prince Charles Avenue, Elizabeth Avenue, Mabua Road, Upper and Lower Kololo Terrace, Elgon Terrace, Golf Course Road, KAR Drive, and BMK Drive, among others.
Authorities have urged road users to comply with traffic guidance and plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays.
“All inconvenience caused is regretted,” KCCA said.
The rehabilitation of Wampeewo Avenue is part of ongoing efforts by the city authority to improve road infrastructure and traffic management within Kampala.
