Journalist Solomon Serwanjja has received the Equity Bank Uganda Community Transformation Award in recognition of his contribution to community development in Bamutakudde village.
Serwanjja, who serves as chairman of Bamutakudde village, announced the award in a post on X, expressing gratitude to the bank for recognising his work.
“It was humbling to receive the Community Transformation Award. The award is in recognition of exceptional contribution towards creating positive impact in Bamutakudde village,” Serwanjja said.
He congratulated three other customers who were also recognised for their contributions to their respective communities.
The awards were presented during Equity Bank Uganda’s customer appreciation activities, held as part of Customer Service Week, an annual initiative through which the bank recognises customers who have excelled in different fields.
Speaking at a customer appreciation breakfast, Jael Christine Wawulira, Equity Bank Uganda’s Head of Customer Experience, thanked customers for their continued trust and loyalty.
Wawulira said the gathering celebrated relationships built with customers over the years and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to improving customer experiences under this year’s theme, “Going the Extra Mile.”
She emphasised the importance of listening to customers, building lasting relationships and ensuring that customers feel valued.
Equity Bank Uganda Executive Director Claver Serumaga said the bank appreciated entrepreneurs, farmers, business leaders and community builders who contribute to business growth, job creation and community development.
Serumaga said the bank was investing in technology, digital banking, service channels and personnel to provide simpler, more reliable and responsive services.
He added that customer feedback would remain central to the bank’s efforts to improve its services.
During the event, Serwanjja also outlined his development priorities for Bamutakudde, highlighting access to clean water, household income generation and accountability in community leadership.
He said his vision included constructing boreholes to improve access to safe water, promoting community-based poultry farming to increase household incomes, and strengthening governance through accountability and strategic partnerships.
Serwanjja said the community’s development aspirations aligned with Equity Bank’s stated purpose of transforming lives and creating opportunities. He called for collaboration between the bank, customers and other stakeholders to support sustainable development and improve livelihoods.
Another customer, Alfred Anyoti, Managing Director of Ana Investments Uganda Limited, shared how access to financing had helped him expand his business and pursue larger contracts.
Anyoti said obtaining capital had been a major challenge when he started his business, but guidance from his relationship manager helped him leverage his assets to secure financing.
He said the support enabled him to execute major contracts, expand his assets and strengthen his capacity to undertake larger projects.
Equity Bank Uganda said its annual customer appreciation activities recognise clients across different sectors for their achievements and contributions.
Serwanjja’s recognition comes amid his community development work in Bamutakudde, where he has highlighted access to clean water, improved household livelihoods and accountable leadership as priorities for local development.
