Jinja — Sylvia Mulinge, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda, has commended Uganda’s progress in electric mobility and innovation following a visit to the Kiira Motors Corporation vehicle plant in Jinja.
Mulinge, accompanied by her executive team, toured the facility under the guidance of founding CEO Paul Isaac Musasizi, where they observed the production of electric buses and other automotive technologies.
Describing the visit as insightful, Mulinge highlighted Uganda’s growing leadership in sustainable transport solutions.
“Today, I had the privilege of touring the Kiira Motors Corporation vehicle plant in Jinja… Together with my team, we witnessed firsthand how Uganda is taking a leading role in advancing electric mobility and digital innovation across Africa,” she said in a post on X.
She added that the level of engineering at the facility reflects the country’s untapped potential.
“Walking through the facility and seeing the level of engineering excellence behind the buses being built was truly inspiring, and a powerful reminder of the immense potential ahead,” Mulinge noted.
The visit also underscored the partnership between MTN Uganda and Kiira Motors in leveraging technology to drive innovation. Mulinge pointed to MTN’s role in supporting digital infrastructure and connectivity.
“At MTN Uganda, we are proud to be part of this journey—from enabling the technology that powers these innovations to partnering on the historic 13,000km electric bus journey… from Uganda to Cape Town and back,” she said.
“We remain committed to connecting progress across borders, sustainably.”
The referenced electric bus expedition, completed in November 2025, demonstrated the viability of long-distance electric mobility across Africa and positioned Uganda as a key player in the sector.
In a statement, Kiira Motors Corporation said discussions during the visit focused on future collaboration areas, including mobile money-enabled mobility systems, Internet of Things (IoT), 5G connectivity, and smart transport infrastructure.
“Today, KMC hosted MTN Uganda CEO Sylvia Mulinge and her Executive Team at the Kiira Vehicle Plant. Discussions focused on MoMo-enabled mobility, IoT, 5G, and smart infrastructure,” the company posted.
“We look forward to building an unstoppable future together.”
The engagement reflects increasing collaboration between the telecommunications and automotive sectors as Uganda pushes to develop a modern, tech-driven transport ecosystem aligned with global sustainability goals.
