The Anti-Corruption Court in Nakasero has issued fresh summons to two senior officials from Alebtong District Local Government to answer charges related to the alleged irregular payment of more than Shs165 million to a construction company.

According to the prosecution, the officials are accused of authorising the payment under circumstances that allegedly violated public financial management regulations, resulting in financial loss to the government.

Court documents indicate that the funds were released to the contractor without the required verification and approval procedures typically mandated for government-funded construction projects.

The Nakasero-based court re-issued the summons after the two officials reportedly failed to appear in court as earlier directed.

They are now expected to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court to respond to the charges as investigations into the matter continue.

Authorities say the case forms part of broader efforts by the state to strengthen accountability and curb the misuse of public funds within local governments across the country.
