3 killed, several injured in Tausi bus accident

RUSHANYE, BUSHENYI | At least three people have died, and several others sustained critical injuries following a devastating road crash involving a passenger bus and a Toyota Noah along the Mbarara–Bushenyi Highway on Thursday.

The collision occurred at Kantojo Cell, Rutooma Ward, within Rwentuuha Town Council in Bushenyi District. The accident involved a Tausi Bus (registration UBA 707AK) travelling from Kampala to Bushenyi and a Toyota Noah (registration UAJ 196AY).

The Incident

Witnesses at the scene described a high-impact collision that left the smaller Toyota Noah Mangled. According to preliminary reports, the victims—believed to be occupants of the Noah—were killed instantly.

Those who survived with injuries were quickly evacuated by first responders and rushed to nearby health facilities for emergency treatment.

Police Response

Officers from the Uganda Police Force arrived shortly after the crash to manage the surging traffic on the busy western Uganda artery and to begin the process of identifying the deceased and notifying their families.

“Police have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the collision,” authorities stated, adding that a detailed report regarding the total number of casualties and the circumstances leading to the crash will be released once the scene is fully processed.

A Growing Concern

The Mbarara–Bushenyi road remains a critical but dangerous link in western Uganda. This latest tragedy highlights the ongoing public safety challenge of highway fatalities in the country.

Traffic authorities have once again issued a stern warning to motorists to avoid: speeding, reckless overtaking and general non-compliance with traffic regulations.

According to recent police data, these three factors remain the primary contributors to the thousands of lives lost annually on Ugandan roads.
