Makerere University’s latest graduation ceremony was marked by high-profile recognitions and messages of inspiration, as business leaders and academics took centre stage during a vibrant event in Kampala.
According to posts by Vice Chancellor Barnabas Nawangwe, the ceremony saw the university’s Chancellor, Crispus Kiyonga, confer a degree upon King Ceasor Mulenga, the Chancellor of King Ceasor University.
Prof. Nawangwe congratulated King Ceasor for earning his second degree from his alma mater, describing the occasion as a proud moment for the institution.

“I congratulate H.E. King Ceasor Mulenga and Mr. Japheth Katto on their achievements. I thank Chancellor King Ceasor for choosing to get his second degree from his Alma Mater,” Nawangwe posted on X.
Honorary Doctorate for Japheth Katto
The ceremony also saw renowned accountant Japheth Katto awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Makerere University in recognition of his contribution to the accounting profession and corporate governance in Uganda.
Katto, a respected figure in the financial sector, has previously served in leadership roles within Uganda’s accountancy bodies and on various corporate boards.

Commencement Address and Call to Graduates
Dr Patricia Ojangole, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Development Bank, delivered the commencement address, described by university leadership as moving and motivational.
Graduates were urged to apply their knowledge to national development and enterprise creation, aligning with Uganda’s broader push for industrialisation and private sector growth.
Meanwhile, the Principal of Makerere University Business School, Moses Muhwezi, advised graduates to treat their degrees as a stepping stone rather than the final destination to success.

“Use your degree as a foundation upon which to build impact and lifelong achievement,” he counselled.
Celebrating Achievement and Legacy
The graduation ceremony, held at Makerere’s main campus, attracted family members, dignitaries, and members of the academic community, reflecting the institution’s continued stature as one of Africa’s leading universities.
The recognitions of King Ceasor and Japheth Katto added a notable highlight to the day’s proceedings, reinforcing Makerere’s tradition of celebrating both academic excellence and professional distinction.
