Police have arrested 27 suspects during a joint security operation conducted in Bulindo Katuli Zone and Buwate Ghetto under Kira Police Division, as part of efforts to curb rising crime linked to drug-related activities.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operation was carried out on February 12, 2026, starting at 8:00 PM, following reports of increasing criminal activity in areas believed to be frequented by suspected drug dealers and users.

Police said the suspects were arrested and charged with possession of suspected narcotic substances. Officers also recovered exhibits believed to be illegal drugs during the operation.

“The operation aimed at enhancing security in the area following an increase in crime, particularly in locations frequented by suspected criminals involved in drug-related activities,” police said in a statement.

The suspects are currently being held in custody pending screening and processing of their case files for possible prosecution.

Police described the operation as successful and said similar enforcement actions will continue to ensure safety and restore public order in crime-prone areas.

The statement was issued by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
