KAMPALA — The Minister of State for Higher Education, Hon. Dr John Chrysostom Muyingo, has inaugurated the 12th Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Board, calling for renewed commitment to integrity, accountability, and innovation in the management of national examinations.

Dr Muyingo officiated at the ceremony on behalf of the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, who underscored UNEB’s central role in safeguarding public confidence in Uganda’s education system.

In her message delivered by Muyingo, Janet Museveni emphasised that UNEB remains a key institution in national development, noting that the credibility of Uganda’s assessment system must be protected at all costs.

“She urged the new Board to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ensure that the assessment process remains credible and trusted by the public,” UNEB said in a statement.

The Minister also commended the outgoing Board for registering notable achievements during its term, including the implementation of Competence-Based Assessment, a reduction in examination malpractice, the timely release of results, and the initiation of e-assessment systems aimed at modernising the country’s examination process.

The newly inaugurated 13-member Board will be chaired by Prof. Celestino Obua, who begins a second term at the helm. The Board has been urged to execute its mandate with patriotism and dedication, ensuring that the integrity of national examinations is strengthened.

UNEB said the new leadership is expected to play a key role in advancing reforms that promote fairness and transparency in assessment, while ensuring that Uganda’s learners are prepared for a competitive future.
