PM Nabbanja: Bobi Wine is just a crowd-pulling celebrity

Prime Minister Hon. Robinah Nabbanja

Prime Minister Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s victory in the 2026 general elections, while criticising opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) for failing to inspire confidence among voters.

Her remarks were made during an interview on #NTVOnTheSpot, where she reviewed the recent polls and Uganda’s political landscape.

According to Nabbanja, Museveni’s win was a reflection of continuity, stability, and development programs that have positively impacted Ugandans over the past three decades.

“The President delivered a powerful message, inspiring hope by highlighting where Uganda stands, where it has come from, and the path ahead, while others centred on protests and the protest vote,” she said.

Nabbanja attributed Museveni’s popularity, particularly in Northern Uganda, to initiatives such as peace and security, wealth-creation programs like PDM and Emyooga, and skilling hubs for school dropouts, which she said have improved livelihoods and opportunities.

She added that citizens are quietly celebrating the victory, underscoring confidence in the NRM government’s continued leadership.

On the opposition, Nabbanja criticised NUP Party President Bobi Wine, saying he “fails to inspire hope” and accused him of focusing on protests rather than tangible solutions.

She suggested that his inability to campaign effectively in Kakumiro reflects broken promises and a lack of preparedness to deliver on electoral commitments.

“We acknowledge that Bobi Wine is a crowd-puller, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into votes. People often come just to see a celebrity,” she said. “No one has stopped him from staying in his home; everyone is wondering why he chose to leave. He is not wanted by the government.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted NRM’s internal cohesion as a key factor in its electoral success. She noted that in Buganda, the NRM team remained more united than ever during the “Buganda for Museveni” campaigns, strengthening oversight and monitoring roles.

“As NRM professionals, one of the gains we are safeguarding is that, with the UPDF, people no longer live in fear of our security personnel,” she added.

Nabbanja concluded by congratulating Ugandans for exercising their democratic rights and commending Museveni’s resounding and well-deserved victory in the 2026 elections, emphasising that the government’s focus remains on peace, stability, and wealth creation as Uganda moves forward.
